How to read the calendar
- The large number is the Gregorian day; the small number under it is the matching Hijri day.
- On the first day of each Hijri month the month number is added, e.g. “1/7” is 1 Rajab.
- Weeks start on Sunday; Fridays and Saturdays (the Saudi weekend) are shaded and today is highlighted.
- Under each month name you’ll find its number of days and the Hijri dates of its first and last day.
- To print or save as PDF, press Print and pick a printer or Save as PDF to get the whole year, Gregorian and Hijri, in one file.
Gregorian year and Hijri year
The Gregorian year is solar, 365 or 366 days; the Hijri year is lunar, 354 or 355 days. So every Gregorian year covers parts of two Hijri years, and Hijri months move about 11 days earlier each year. For a full Hijri year use the Hijri calendar, and to convert a single date use the Hijri–Gregorian converter.
Month names
Saudi Arabia uses the names January to December (يناير … ديسمبر), while the Levant and Iraq use Kanun al-Thani, Shubat, Adhar and so on. See the Gregorian months in order for each month’s number and length, and the history of the Gregorian calendar for the 1582 reform.
