The new Gregorian year
The Gregorian year begins on 1 January. The countdown above runs in days, hours, minutes and seconds to midnight at the start of that day, Riyadh time, and then moves on to the following year automatically.
How many days in a year?
- A common year has 365 days; a leap year has 366, with 29 February.
- 2027 is a common year and 2028 a leap year.
- 2026 began on a Thursday, and 2027 begins on a Friday.

Gregorian and Hijri years
