Why is it called Dhu al-Qadah?
The name means “the month of sitting”: the Arabs stayed put and did not fight in it, because it is a sacred month.
Dhu al-Qadah and Hajj
Dhu al-Qadah comes just before the month of Hajj, and many pilgrims travel to Mecca during it. Hajj begins on 8 Dhu al-Hijjah and the Day of Arafah is the 9th. The Eid al-Adha countdown shows the Day of Arafah and Eid.
