Rajab at a glance
- Number: 7, the seventh month of the Hijri year.
- Days: 29 or 30 depending on the year.
- Sacred month: yes.
- Order: after Jumada al-Akhirah, followed by Shaban and then Ramadan.
Why is it called Rajab?
The name comes from tarjib, honouring: the Arabs revered the month and stopped fighting in it. It is also called “Rajab the single” because it is the only sacred month separate from the other three.
Rajab in the Gregorian calendar
Rajab has no fixed Gregorian month, because the Hijri year is about 11 days shorter, so it comes earlier every year. The calendar above shows Rajab {hyear} AH day by day with the Gregorian date under each day, by the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia. To convert any other date use the Hijri–Gregorian converter, and for the other months see the Hijri calendar.
